Son in Laws recently bought a 2.0 TDI Skoda superb 2016 with a VW engine with low mileage.
The problem is the cabin heater is only blowing cool air. Seems they fit a silica gel bag in the expansion tank (its supposed to make the coolant last the life of the car instead of replacing it every few years) but this bag is prone to splitting and blocking up the heater matrix and cooling system.
So instead of changing the coolant every few years you have to change the expansion tank, the heater matrix, flush the system and then change the coolant!! Progress or what?
We had a quick look at it but it looks like there is no easy way to access the heater matrix piping like on older cars and were told the engine probably has 3 water pumps 2 electric and the usual engine driven one, it goes against the grain but it has gone in to the garage to hopefully be fixed and they have reported this is what's happened.
I always run older cars and have never had to replace a heater matrix or a radiator due to blockage on any of them even when they were over 20 years old.
