@ukracer I've cocked up with adaptors in the past but I'd say yours is PCi-e so the fast one

I purchased two yesterday and guess what neither came today. Anyway I have brain fade again. I have the SSD out of my PC which is a1TB plus I have a Crucial 500 meg one. there are only 479 meg on the 1TB drive so I want to make a copy of the drive (but obviously I cant use my cloner) so I am trying to think how to copy it to the 500meg so they are exactly copies with boot sectors etc etc etc what software do I use. I will probably remember in a while but my wife has done my head in today, every time I sat down she wanted me to do something. This was after being out down the damn town from 11.30 to 5.30 with my bed back from Thursday.

you can still clone but you wont do it to that hard drive as hard drives get made smaller

at 512gb my hard drive drops back to 476gb so you wont be able to down to a 500gb hard drive as that hard drive size will be smaller

with acronis you can go to a smaller drive or even a larger drive as long as you set it up right but you still have to be smaller than the hard drive max limit of space that is used up

Prices have certainly went up lately.
I was looking at a major upgrade from AM4 to AM5, but at £500 for DDR5 alone, that idea has been postponed.

Got a 5800X, 5070, and a new NVMe to do a fresh install on the way instead, to give a modest upgrade for now.

I simply cant get past the error message telling me that my computer does not pass TPM 2.0 despite me setting it up in the bios of my Asus rog strix z270f as per many you tube videos.

I am looking into installing windows 10 so I can use it to upgrade to windows 11.
Anyone have experience of a similar issue

Use Rufus and remove the tpm requirements

I have found an accredited online version of the one bit of software that is tying me to Windows, will be trialling in January and hopefully installing Linux on the last machine

I will keep a windows laptop, just in case

I found flyby11 that allowed me to upgrade my grandsons PC. I was amazed how easy it was to clone his 256 SSD to one of my spare 500 SSD crucials. Then boot up as if it was on his old mother board. No errors so far.

Rufus is used to make a bootable usb from the iso, with win11 you can turn off things like the tpm requirements and the minimum ram

Go on the rufus website and look at the screenshot. It's pretty self explanatory. I explained exactly what to do in another thread recently.

How will that assist me though.
I have created a bootable USB drive with windows media creator. How will using Rufus by pass that no TPM 2 message as the bios is now set to secure boot. (as I understand it)

Quite why so many influencers and internet bloggers did not think to explain that i do not know.
It worked a treat.

Ok i realise everyone is probably enjoying themselves or ******. But I am going to ask anyway.
I purchased 2 stick drives and wondered if its best to return the acer.
This is the board they are going in.

So do I keep both and use one as a mirrored drive.
Do i send the acer back and order another crucial.

The crucial is the faster drive but depends on use

In my only desktop machine I have 1tb nvme storage and 4tb of sata, but it's just storage so speed is not an issue

Use the crucial for boot and the Acer for storage, it will be plenty fast enough

Probably because you would normally enable TPM within the BIOS, and that would be it. As for secure boot, that is usually best left off.

windows 11 bit locker is the one to watch out for if on by default which it is make sure you have a backup of your files

by paid reference via microsoft or alternative ( hard drive external with bit locker off )

if not certain issues will create no access to your files and the usual live cd will not access them this means no backup and you have lost the files
