Ram/SSD prices.

I have a few old pc towers of xp and vista era.

Is it worth salvaging the ram or anything else from them?

that will be ddr3 and earlier. ok for a museum, nothing else.

if the older towers are still working they can be used for something else

as goes for older im still using ddr2 and ddr3, athlon x2 cpu and 6core 939 cpu

im also still using windows 7 , removed windows 10 from another pc and installed linux zorin onto it older systems still have a use depending on your usages they are also faster with an ssd installed into them

as i dont like windows 10 or 11 and microsoft can shove them where the sun dosnt shine as i refuse to use them

I have 10 of these. Not sure how many are working but most are decent makes.

I was going to rob the power supplies from them. Is there anything else useful there?

I've made plenty of things from the cases, especially the old ones which were much thicker steel.

DDR4 is expensive, but have you seen the price of DDR5?!

I have a corsair RM750 but only 3 leads.

I think i have them in the correct sockets.
I think I am. Only missing the sata hard drive power lead.
There just seem to be lots of spare sockets though to the left??

Ok now i have a weird problem.
I had a motherboard fitted and an SSD plus a couple of Hard disks.

I then installed a new Mobo and an m 2.0 stick. I installed Windows 11 and all went well.
I need to take a working image so I have a quick reinstall if I need one.

I put the SSD back in and it shows up in bios and Windows Explorer but i just cant get the system to boot from it.

What am I doing wrong?

Tried all sorts. nothing seems to work.

I have found out the SSD is GPT disc not MBR

From my recent experience setting up a new desktop I'm not surprised that the new motherboard won't play ball. I've been installing Linux on an Asus mobo ( I didnt want w11). Tried ubuntu first as I've put that on two laptops, wouldnt even start the installer. Got fedora running, but the nvidia driver doesnt play nicely with the kernel, so have put cachyos on. Works nicely. For the two distros that will install, different boot settings (uefi or legacy) were needed.
