ive been looking myself for a 240gb ssd i bought 1 for my pc 2 years ago for £20 ish quid so thought id get a bigger on for the same money now but any decent name stuff now is 30 quid for the same
I was looking for some 16GB sticks of DDR5 RAM back in October. £131 for a pair back then but I thought I would wait until Black Friday to see if there were any deals to be had. I saw some early reports about the shortages but by then it was too late, the same thing now is well over £400 if you can find any. I searched for a less obvious place to buy some from and eventually got a single stick from RS Components for £109, one will do me for now until things calm down again

Exactly this - RAM and SSD prices have been increasing on a daily basis over the last few weeks.
Micron/Crucial have even closed their retail business down entirely now to focus purely on satisfying commercial contracts.
NVidia have abandoned supplying to their board partners so the price and scarcity is only going to increase.
I understand it is expected to be dire until 2028 at least. Still we can all enjoy some more fake AI tiktok videos instead, so there is that.

I wanted some more RAM for a desktop I'm putting together. 32GB DDR4 is over £200. Took a real punt on ebay, bid £70 for a used one. Once I'd plugged it in properly the system is happy with it. There still might be issues with it down the line, but for 1/3 of the price of new I felt it was a gamble worth taking.
What mobo have got as there are two versions of M.2, there's M.2 SATA which is no faster than a traditional SATA 3 SSD and then there's M.2 NVMe, which use the PCI e bus. This is a direct connection to the CPU rather than going through a SATA controller, so it's much faster as @Kayos says

Its a asus rog strix z270f apparently. I am not near it till the morning but i think thats what it is.
It says it supports PCIe mode so that's good and it's the one you want for best speed.
