and since blasting with sand is being talked about, it would be rude not not post more recent regulations.......times change.......not so long ago you used to be able to smoke in pubs

I use them in a battery grinder, so a little slower, and let them work, don't put too much pressure on - they last a pretty long time and do and excellent job. You need a mask for the fine rust dust coming off though.Wirebrushes as mentioned just polish, flapdiscs take material off and wear out quick.
I didn't watch - but I hope they had a proper locking device on the nut - it's simply spin off when reversed.Which got me wondering, is there a commercially available reversible angle grinder with all the perils that might ensue.

They are pretty much self-sharpening as they wear - and still polish.
Even if you think not - clean something rusty - scratch the surface with a pointer/screwdriver - bet you see a rusty line as you break through the polished layer.

Accepting that brushes do produce a surface which is smoother than a blasted or abraded surface, they are much easier to use on irregular surfaces, so in practice, when I've worked on the underside of cars in particular, it's usually been brushes on drills or grinders that have done most of the work, and the results have been adequate. It's certainly very much better that using nothing at all! The one thing that I really do hate about brushes is the way they create clouds of really fine rust dust, which I find a real irritant and try to resist with generous applications of barrier cream.
