You would need the crimp die as well then, I'm a paper puncher myself so dont use the magazine. Only asked about Caldicot as Severnside Range is there. Used to shoot there twice a week at one time. Range out to 200, nice friendly setup and approved up to 40mm! Got a clay range as well. This guy:http://reloading.org.uk/ is there on a Saturday morning usually(muzzle loaders have the range Saturday mornings). Never bought anything myself but apparently if you order beforehand he will bring bits down for you.

Wyn nice March, I have only the one now (second time sent back to Jap) having had 8 others.


Which leads me on to that March requiring around 18moa tilt but does have a fair elevation to compensate but far from ideal optical centre with that bolt on parallel rail.

It's the 2.5-25 x 42 and is very good.

It is about 11 moa off optical centre so maybe a 10 moa rail will get it closer.

right, i have now ammended my application for .17 and .223 Remington. The .17hmr is cheap enough locally Bout 12 quid per 50 for 17 grain ballistic tip and 13.50 a box for 20 grain hollow point. The .223 is about 20 quid for a box of 20.

started to look into reloading, price comes down a lot, but requires tools. I can get a classic lee load all quite cheap, no press required, just consumables and maybe a case length trimmer, or i could just throw the brass that is too long to begin with. Am i right in thinking i need explosives cetificate for powder and primers?

You need no extra licence for smokeless powder or primers other than showing your FAC, you do need a higher than normal ammo allowance though upwards of 300 (bullets are bought in boxes of 100 and are face to face only with section 5 ). Triming the brass is no big deal with the .223 just make sure it don't get too long, it shouldn't for quite a few firings with this cartridge .243 and .220 swift are swines for stretching but not the .223. just keep an eye on it many others will trim for you its not very onerous a task.

I have never used a crimp an neither have a lot of skilled shooters and reloaders, many manufacturers of kit don't even make crimp dies

Probably explains it Wyn used to see quite a few CZ with non straight barrels. Hate working in moa, prefer an actual measurement I can work with.
High intensity IR as well, must get me 10-60 back lost without it.

Ah think on what if you buy 100 bullets (the quantity of a single box when your purchasing) and the gun don't like them you have to wade through at least 50 before you can buy another box of 100. 300 is reasonable and I should sat 250 is the minimum for the reason outlined

Moa is a measurement (of angle) 1 /60th of a degree which is roughly 1" at 100 yards 2" at 200 3" at 300 yards etc. If you use hold and never dial corrections MOA still allows you to make a probability call of a first round hit ( as a measure of the gun or ammo best possible performance) obviously forgetting all about the nut behind the butt and their failings. 1/4 MOA click on a scope will move the point of impact 1/4" at 100 yards and 1" at 400 yards if your sight works on 1/8 moa clicks halve that etc. MOA has become confusing with MILRAD and reticules that look more like Christmas trees than clear aiming points but really it dead simple

For example on my light rifle I know off the top of my head that I need 2 Moa correction in normal elevation and 5.6 MOA in a full value 10 mph wind, that's a lot easier to remember and fractionalise than thinking 11.2" of wind and 4" of drop, when you shooting say 1000 yards out 30+ Moa correction is not unusual 30x10 is like 300" so it certainly has its uses as nobody can hold off for that shot, yet although getting on target takes some doing first shot most decent off the shelf factory made deer class rifles can be capable of 5 bullets in a 12- 15" group

i am one of those strange shooters that likes to use holdover on the air rifle, but MOA adjustment of powder burners. not a clue why i do this, i can use both holdover and elevation adjustment perfectly well, just don't like altering the scope on the air rifle unless i have to

hadn't thought of that. had a call to arrange my interview earlier. got to wait 3 weeks for it due to an influx of FAC applications.

kicking myself earlier, came home from work, grabbed the semi auto and went straight back out on the promise of a very brave fox that runs in to the call like its never been fed. unfortunately when i saw it, it was about 250 yards and the wrong side of a railway fence...did happen across a rather daft rabbit though. had the dog with me and a red lamp and it sat there and let me walk in to about 20 yards and drop it. at first i thought it was myxi but eyes and ears fine, liver, kidneys lungs heart etc all ok so its in the fridge waiting for me to use it to try out a recipe from sporting shooter i saw the other month.

Its because range is so much shorter. Realistic ranges with 12 ft lb mean just over the top of the head. Even FT shots don't dial wind generally. Wind corrections are almost always better made by dialing past 200 yards and CF. I don't ever dial the LR these days while hunting even past 100 yards, horses for courses.

even with a centre fire it wouldn't have been safe, would have to weave the bullet through 2 fences, across a live railway and no backstop apart from light hedges. Back out at 5 for a wander on a newly cut field after birds.

I do both, dial for competition 8-55 yards where 55 is 17 off 1/4 clicks on from zero 30 yards peak of trajectory, a lot more than top of kill (20mm drop off) which would be 40 yards. I usually mess about on 10 mag guess the range holdover, wind etc and take standing to **** others off, goes down well. Its after 43 yards where trajectory drops off and a massive effect on the wind thereafter. I am an AA by the way.
No one ever dials for windage its far easier to judge size of kill and aim off in a changing wind by the second, no dots nothing straight forward duplex.

Tried a few times working in angles. Take machine level and zero inclinometer, try and set job within seconds of a degree.
For my own purpose I have it written down some where what 1 moa corresponds to an actual height measurement over 130mm, something like 0.058mm per moa. My March 80's needed 16.55moa tilt for optical centre, to me that means 0.96mm tilt over 130mm., same as most 10-60's.

FT shooting is a world of its own compared to most other forms of shooting due to the differences that occur in such a small distance / wind change to topography etc. Dialing wind is far too complex hence. When you say "peak of trajectory" this normally means the highest point over your line of sight, are you using it as such here?

I messed about with a bit of FT for a year....The scope was shimmed so that there was only one "zero" at around 30 or 35 yards....all the dialing on the scope was then in one direction which made it easier (unless it was a full turn out).

Yes high mounts, high rail ive fogot cr height means 30 to 55 is 17 1/4" clicks. Lower rail with 25 yard zero comes in 22 clicks equating to 5 1/2" at 100 yards. That's same trajectory as .300 Winmag from 100 to 240 yards. Stalkings all on zero for paid shoots, poke em down.
