Hi. I should say hello as i'm a new member and its a bit rude to fire off with requests without introducing myself.
I'm a hobbyist welder and fabricator / very amateur engineer who likes to take on projects and things bigger than is needed, more complicated that I have the skills for and generally I over engineer everything i make..... we all need a hobby though eh?
Ive been following page/forum for several years and i'm always impressed by everyones willing ness to help, hopefully can glean some info from the group and maybe return some too one day!
Iv'e been reading through this thread and the ones associated, there have been several mentions of diagrams/manuals for the Q+S 6" saw... does anyone who has one mind sharing it with me?
I have one I will be restoring and any help is appreciated!
At the moment my saw functions for its primary purpose, it cuts...
The Hydraulics are not quite right though. When the up/down (clearly i don't know its proper name) lever is 'down' the bow falls there is some degree of variance in speed based on the position of the fall control lever however its still pretty quick and much quicker that it should be....
When the up/down lever is horizontal and seated into the 'catch' when the bow should rise, the ram looks like it's trying hard to raise but you need to look closely at it and its barely moving, not enough to notice without getting right up close to the cylinder.
I took the top part of the cylinder apart last night and i'm missing the spring for the beveled washer that I have now ordered. When i took it apart i was surprised i didn't get loads of oil all over the place? after withdrawing the assembly that is attached to the lid there was about 1/2 a cylinder of oil.... presume i need more?
Was thinking to top everything up with a general motor oil for now to see it the 'low level' is my problem, wanted to see opinion if that was a bad idea or if there was any information on the workings of the lower part of the system that might be influencing things?
Finally, i presume the gasket washer is not supposed to be bent! i will straighten in if its not...
