Just a thought... those cylinder gang mowers are usually used for mowing sports pitches and large lawns. Have you tried the mower on the field as they usually don’t work well in long grass with weeds or tough vegetation. They also don't work well if there are many bumps - once tried a ride on gang mower on my lawn (which is quite bumpy and full of moss - but not a field!) and it was very bad despite the blades being sharp 
Have you thought about a rotary topper, flail or drum mower as these sound better suited to your application...
Just a suggestion though, don't want to see you invest time and money without getting the results - although without seeing the field its hard to comment...

we tried the mowers on next doors tractor at the end of last year, seemed to cut ok but the field is like a sports field, big and flat but l need to keep on top of it and start cutting as soon as the grass starts growing, l have used the field for hay in the past but last year we were invaded by doc's, unbelievable amount appeared by magic, l am being told by the framer next door that repeated mowing will see them off, the grass being hardy will always regrow while the weeds will try a few times and eventually give up, will need to mow almost weekly and keep it like a lawn, is this why our lawns at home dont seem to suffer with weeds/doc's ? dose it sound plausible or is he pulling my plonker here ?

yes this has been through my head a few times, cant say l fancy having a transit Di engine in the disco with me, might drown out the cd player
but extending the draw bar on the mower and fitting a tranny engine on there ( as already suggested) has merit as any 4 wheel drive could drag them round then

spraying will cost ya about 4 quid for spraying and approxx 10 for the chemical
you WILL use more than that in diesel everytime you cut it

l use to rent the field to a local farmer who had it sprayed every year to get rid of the docs, each year they were back again and in greater numbers, l always though the contractor was being clever and spraying with fertiliser to make sure he had work the following year
