Hi JP...wasn't me but agree that was a very good find...I'm still recovering from illness over the holidays...nothing serious but nothing that would be helped by a dusty environment. Hoping to get back to it next week as my regular work restart has been delayed by a week or so...it feels like months since I had time for the Figaro...I kind of knew this would happen hence the big push to get the welding done by the end of last year. Almost got there but just not quite....so now I feel like I'm behind where I should be....was hoping to be rebuilding by now....grrrr!

I feel your pain, literally...sinus infection at the moment....it will be another week before Im able to work on anything outside!

Yea JP...I know the feeling....if you aren't working and you aren't down the garage then here is that list of things I need doing!
Finally made a small start on the Figaro....first job was to sort the rear boot area. What a pile of poop...the guy tack welded this piece of steel then filled the hole up with filler from underneath. On the top he stuck a piece of rubber to cover up and job done...all ready for the MOT I guess....out of sight out of mind!!

Made a start on cleaning up...any hope of an easy repair disappeared when it became clear that the members underneath will also need repair. There is a rear cross member running across the rear part of the car plus another one running down the middle which is used for the tow eye.
I'm pretty sure the damage is worse because water got under the patch repair....very annoying. Oh well...not the worst I've had to deal with so just cut, clean and weld. I will probably do this in a couple of pieces to make life a little easier.

Indeed slim...don't worry....the universe always evens up the score in the end. When he can't find his winning EuroMillions ticket because it went into the wash he'll be wondering why life is so unfair!
He didn't even bother to continuously weld the patch....just covered up the mess underneath and stuck a bit of rubber over the top. A proper botch job....wonder if this was done by the restoration shop
. It's in keeping with the work he did on the wheel arches I guess...

Went a bit crazy on the cutting...just cannot be bothered welding to rust so cut back to good steel. Sadly the corrosion had also eaten into the members underneath so they will need fixing.
I did work out what happened...basically when "numpty" decided to weld a plate over the holes in the boot what he actually did was block up the drain hole in the process. The water had nowhere to go....the damage might have been less severe if said "numpty" hadn't tacked the repair in place...thus leaving plenty of entry points for water to accumulate under said plate.

Some progress on the second bit....I messed up with the cutting near the drain hole so will need a little piece adding in (bit of a shame...just got carried away with the grinder!).The plan is to replicate the original drain/plug hole...I did think about blanking it off but seemed like cheating.
Cutting and fitting these repair panels was a real pain...first the panels were a pain because there is a little curve around the base along the back and the corners needed shaping and a bit of shrinking....then the welding produced lots of holes...then I got half the panel in and then cut it wrong....one of those days!
In the end I just ran out of time so the drain will have to wait for another day...so go easy on the feedback as it's a work in progress!!

I am certainly not one to give you any amount of a hard time on those repairs being in the same predicament many many times myself!...besides, the end results look great.

Cheers JP, yea got there in the end but it just fought me the whole way. Some of it was my own fault...I welded in the first piece then remembered that I needed to plug weld to the member underneath. When I drilled the plug holes there was a 3mm gap so I had to spend quite a bit of time getting the gap closed. Learned on the second piece of course and did the plugs before completing the welding.
You are right...something times its easy and sometimes it's less easy but at least I'm moving forwards again finally!

Some beating using the pulley underneath with a jack supporting it got me mostly there. It needs some fine finishing but will come back to that when I'm prepping for paint. I hacked the hole in with the power file...as long as the bung fits I'm happy.
Bit of etch primer and that's the rear part of the boot repair done...still plenty of other holes to fix in the boot but this was by far the biggest.
