I could only see one weld repair underneath....if this is how he welds then perhaps it was best to stick with filler. I think it's mig but it could easily be stick welding! The weld it to the right of the pic with a patch behind the rear arch.

The sills look pretty terrible but I can see good metal underneath the rust so maybe there is some hope...I could see some evidence of welding/repair....will find out more I guess If/when I start cutting.

Next job is to drop the fuel tank....I'll then get the front up in the air to have a look at that too!

Almost forgot...What's this strange lump on the passenger door. Yep you've guessed....it's full of filler too! It looks like this panel had a bash at some point which might explain why the door gap is a bit funky....I think that the rear quarter door edge was probably crushed. I imagine I'll find some filler in there too somewhere.

I still can't believe what a mess this rear quarter is....vs my first pic. It's amazing what an artist can do with a bit of filler!

Yea....the thought had crossed my mind too.....but thats a big step up in complexity although I do appreciate it would save a huge amount of time being able to do the work at a comfortable level.

After dinner I went down to the garage and tweaked the door closer (door strike...that thingy on the inside!)...the fit is now very good at the top and out at the bottom where the original dent was. Think I'm happy with it....I'll sand the filler off the door to see where it ends up but I reckon most of the problem here is that the lower part of the panel has been straightened very badly.

Came across this small hole in the rear floor area. The problem is there isn't any access ....other than cutting a hole in the front. But the lights have an inner skin too. Going to be tough to fix this properly I think.

Looking and thinking about it I think it's a triple layered joint where the outer panel, the floor panel and the light surround all come together along that lower flange....gulp!

I almost got the grinder out and got started with it today....it's hard to hold off before I do a recon mission on the front end. What made it worse is that I picked up a new 20l cylinder of gas today...so literally there is nothing to stop me now. I even bought some 0.6mm wire too...better for the tin foil on the nissan I reckon than my current 0.8mm stuff.

Just a small smear of tiger seal and the problem would be hidden from view for at least 2 years

I'll think of something....worst case there will be a glut of cheap figaro parts on the bay of fleas!

P40 grit sanding pads arrived this evening.....lets see how that glass fibre and filler holds up against these!

Perhaps the rear of that one is also full of filler too....in which case I count two skips in that photo

I should have time tomorrow to finish off the sanding...lets see whats left of the rear quarter once the P40 grit hits it!

I've just noticed the name on that skip is a Sheffield firm - I wonder if that car's the one that lives on my street?

I know I shouldn't like them but actually this Figaro is kind of growing on me! I think it's just the way you go to take something off and the nuts and bolts just come undone nice and easily. I'm used to having to drill them out and reap them after they snap off!

That's what the local garage chap said to me about my BMWs [only one at a time now ] - they just come apart like they're supposed to.

I must admit I thought Figaros were a bit odd when I first saw one, but really they're quite nice. I like the interior. They look as though they should have a big key sticking out of the boot.
