Project 1 Series!

Hello all i'm new to this forum.

but i hope i'm welcome.

So this is the start of project so this is the plan.

I've Brought a 1998 BMW 540 4.4 M62 V8 to rob the engine out.

This is to be fitted into a bmw 1 series.

Engine: Cat Cams,Rods,Full rebuild with all new chain kits and gaskets(possible dry sump) 400-500hp @ between 7-8k. also will be fitted with throttle bodies.

Shell: Engine to be fitted further back looking to get 25% of the engine under the bulkhead but that will be decided on mock up. Full BTCC Spec roll cage that i will weld in then make seat mountings a new bulk head. adjustable front and rear camber and caster 275-300 tyre at the rear with arches i will make and 255 tyre at the front.

So been stupid busy recently and had no time to update, but thank you for all your positive comments

Engine is out and now stripped all auxiliaries of that arnt needed

A/C pump in the bin
Power steering pump in the bin
Smaller alternator will be used
Electric fan too
Then scrapped the shell

Pulled rocker covers off very little ware on the cams at all. so that's good news!

Looked down the bores some carbon but nothing the be worried about.

Hoping to keep the updates coming moved house and in need of another workshop.

Yes I kept some of the parts but TBH but it was at my old house and I need to get the car moved on.

I keep reading the thread title as 'Project Series 1', I get excited thinking it will be a new thread about old Land Rovers not remembering that I have looked in at least twice allready. Still sounds like an impressive project, what are you going to do with it when it is completed? Obviously drive it, but in competition? If so what class?

Planning to test it on track days to set the car up and to get comfortable with it all then will enter timeattack and go from there really, maybe some hill climbs?

Race it in everything I can with the budget I will have.

With the E38, I bought it for £645 +£125 for trailer hire + £70ish for diesel to collect from liverpool, sold all the parts I could for about £2k keeping the engine and a few other relevant bits for the kit car but it took 6 months of advertising and quite a few complaints from the neighbors.

Didn't have the time or space have broke cars in the past does work out, just not this time.

now have a workshop loads of work to do to get it to a useable standard but moving forward

Another late reply sorting the workshop painting and building a office so been busy but a race car turned up for shell prep and the wide body got serious.

So I'm widening the body by 30mm to allow for a bigger tyre and it will look cool too.
