For repeat customers i somtimes work without upfront payment.
For new customers, theres no way id be turning my metal stock into custom (largely unsalable) scrap without 100% of the job cost up front. In my field ive never, not even once, had anyone refuse that.
But, gates are kind of building work, and builders dont always have the best rep, etc. so i wouldnt imagine the terms would be the same.
In another life, like bob, the job would be done on the first day of the month. Id pay wages weekly. Id invoice at the end of the month. They were supposed to pay at the end of the next month, but, often, a couple of months later, still no money... They always did pay, right up to the end, but its not a situation id really ever want to be in again.
