In Scotland, if you hit a sheep, it should be reported to the farmer/police, or the tag details handed in. If your car is damaged, you claim your insurance.Whom is paying whom here ?
If a sheep got out and wandered onto the roadway and caused the accident, payment
should be to the injured party, not the farmer.
Many places in Scotland, if you are driving on a ’country’ road, there is a high risk you are sharing it with sheep. And the sheep don’t need to pay insurance. Not the first time I’ve got stuck in my car, on a single track ‘dirt’ road while a dairy herd ambles either side of me, heading to the milking shed.
