A few years ago someone came up with the idea to release lynx into the Thetford forest to control the deer numbers. Any free range poultry/ pigs killed would be fully compensated. But they got cold feet when they realised just how much free range was in the area.Don't get me wrong, as an idea it is fascinating, I can also visualise when it gets out of control too, as these things tend to.
I got offered 4 front legs and 4 back legs for £50 last week. I thought that's too deer.

Really!!!!!!I've never had it, never seen it for sale now I think about it. I might ask the butcher next time I'm in there, I reckon it would make a great curry. Bet it's at least £25 per KG though...
I can get it from me old mate and neighbour Jamie Oliver.Oddly, I wouldn’t ever pay to go on a stalk. It’s something me and @northwest have discussed at length, again oddly while we are shooting usually.
I would shoot for conservation however, I understand why the job needs doing and whilst I derive no pleasure from killing, it needs to be done.
I am a fan of venison though, it’s a shame there’s no one culling round here as I’d happily have a freezer full of it
Does he know ?I can get it from me old mate and neighbour Jamie Oliver.
Or more accurately his estate which is a village along

I have no idea where this surplus is - but I'd like a bit of it!! (Actually quite a bit of it - excellent meat IMHO)As we are all painfully aware (because most everyone on here is a caring person, if they weren't they wouldn't be here) times are tough right now. As I and others have often pointed out, there is a massive surplus of Venison and we should take a leaf out of the Yanks book:
Problem with introducing predators is they almost inevitably take the easy meals ... and that's not usually what the numpties had in mind
I do like a bit of venison and would eat more if it was reasonably priced
I've never tried it, not even sure i've seen it for sale anywhere. We already cull Deer, if you knew how Defra go about it up in Scotland you would wonder which country you were in as it is barbaric. The problem is, there is no value in Venison here in the UK. It is one of the very best meats to eat, totally fat free, as lean as you like and we don't, as a nation, eat it. Used to, it was a massive part of our diet but now it is beef and pork we eat.
That's why we call it "Speed beef"......There's loads of it free down the A21!
