I get offered venison at work pretty regularly... more now than in previous years
looks like the running price right now is £2.50/kg for a full gutted dear
I don't buy any, busy enough doing the 'normal' meats
I saw a thread over the weekend, some game dealers have dropped their prices to 46p per kilo
The biggest problem as I see it with the idea of culling and giving to locals or for the needy is that you have to hunt it gut it carefully and transport the cadaver to a butchering place as well as store the cuts . Cost wise this is not viable when you can coral a hundred pigs , sheep of cattle etc. in a few hours at the door of the slaughter house and process them in the component parts in 10 hours or so and have them distributed to the shops the same evening .
Sadly far too sensible an idea for it to ever be put into practice though....
Freezing should kill most of the parasites, cant remember exactly but I think it was -18 for 3 days? How could you ? Poor Bambi. Especially when his mother died.
But anyway, we have venison fairly often. SWMBO likes to freeze it for a while, but I cant remember why. She is asleep at the moment while supposed to be watching Bake Off, so can't ask.
Not just the animals! It does seem we often underestimate the ability of animals to procreate.
Its Walt Disney affect, Bambi. This country has been terrible for not eating venison for ever. Aldi and Lidl are addressing the issue, the venison they sell is Scottish and affordable. I am part of the chain that supplies it.
The laws in Scotland have changed for the worse, no out of season for males, females can be shot in September under license. Not all stalkers use these laws though.
Sounds like he’s doing a good job on his ownMy mate had a similar experience to the above, except it jumped into him on his fire blade and knocked him off, Breaking his arm and righting off the bike.
He's hit several in his car and is adamant they need culling.
Friend of mine hit a sheep at high speed back in the early 80's, literally cut it in half, wrote his bike off, him and his pillion in hospital etc. Of course, no compensation system back in those days.My mate had a similar experience to the above, except it jumped into him on his fire blade and knocked him off, Breaking his arm and righting off the bike.

Why make them pass? There have been motorcycle collisions with deer around here, mostly from stupid riders that don't
take it slow near dusk.
And as expected, the outcome is not good.
I had qty (2) Ninja bikes tailgating me one night, I'm driving under the speed limit in an area
where I have hit a few, and dodged about 30 deer.
They didn't like how slow i was going, but they understood the situation, that they were caught out late.
They figured they could hide behind me for protection. I slowed down even more, but they would not pass.
And after a mile of their tailgating, I pulled over off onto the berm and made them pass me.
