Jeez, why is postage from the states so damn expensive, a few pairs of Tillman gloves, and the damn postage cost more than twice the price of the gloves....
Just had a look on their website, looks like some decent stuff on there, and no distributors in the UK

Tell me about it ! Postage from the states used to be really cheap but went through the roof about 5 or 6 years ago.
I've almost stopped buying anything on Ebay from the states because of it. I like old copies of American car mags that cover anything to do with Offenhauser, old drag racing and sports car racing but even a mag costs £8 post now !!

Yet buying books from the US via Amazon is stupid cheap.
Due to my tragically nerdy reading habits I can be paying £1.00 or less for the book and £2.80 shipping. For one book I paid 1p plus shipping.
I think it was Biggelow and Schroeders Fishes of The Gulf of Maine.

Postage isn't expensive, it's the seller over charging. I once bought a die set direct from Pro Tools and the postage was 128USD when it came the cost as detailed in the export cert was 28dollars. I rang them and they gave me a credit, that I used at Stakesys
The cheapest fastest and insured and tracking is Gobal Priority Mail By USPS untp about 8lbs in weight for around 30usd last time I got the seller to use it

Last time I checked for an 8 0z package to the UK from here:
USPS - $48 Priority Mail, first class about the same, Express Mail $90. (no tracking available)
UPS - Cheapest was $96.
Fedex - about $80
Every thing is by air now, I have not see the slow-boat option
That does not include import duties.
Always amazed at cheap shipping there. I see shipping on welders for something like £6.95. Cheapest here would be about $60 due to weight. MOst stuff is shipped much farther here.
When I was looking at welders on ebay, most were in California (something like 2200 miles from here.) Shipping on the $300 deal for a used beast was $400-$700.

Well shenion it is a long distance and unfortunately sometimes you have to pay more in the postage rather the actual item.
Sometimes the actual item is invalid.This things happens with old stuff that there not going to build again .Sometime worth to spend some more than the regular for something like that!It is like invest in an antique

I was lucky when I imported from the states, my main supplier was happy to stick stuff in for me, I used to buy stuff from all over and get it shipped to him, he would just stick it in with his stuff and off it went.
And of coarse I paid all duties

As the Shox Dr said its people earning off the postage, Its always been expensive getting stuff across the pond, the worst being Fedex, UPS, Bax Global & DHL
I've been shipping car parts from the USA through my own air freight contact in New York for 20 years and they have never lost anything yet, Much cheaper too, but its because i ship large consignments with them weekly so I get much better rates.
I can always ship stuff for others also, once it reaches New York its here in 24hrs, Not bad service eh.

At work we use airways to ship high value kit all round the world not sure how costs compare but would have thought a specially firm might work out cheeper especially if you can give them the option to add to a shipment within a time frame instead of a fast service
