Portable Jump Start Packs

@angellonewolf would you mind trying the DC output? It comes with a cigarete socket adaptor. Mine cuts out if I try anything in the socket. I have to charge the starter to reset it.
One of the reasons I got this one was the dc output. You can use the starter for DC but only lasts 30 seconds.

I have only used mine once to start a strangers car which it did effortlessly. They were previously trying to use jump leads but possibly doing it wrong so I used this.

I wonder whether there's not enough current draw to keep it turned on? I have this with some smaller battery packs - they will charge an iPad no problem but if I plug an ESP32 (tiny Arduino like thing) into it, it only powers it for 30 seconds then shuts down.

No, the jump start side just has a 30 second time limit and you have to keep pressing the button for it to stay longer.

The DC out, even with a tiny load, causes the thing to shut down. It wont turn on again until briefly plugged in to charge.

I was considering one of these - and yes the DC power out would be the most used feature!

I have to say my Gooloo 4000A has been fantastic. Starts anything I tried it with including tractors on very cold days, and it seems to hold it's charge very well. I've done multiple starts on different vehicles within minutes of each other without recharging and the 'charge state' bars have only gone down to 3/4. I've put it on a shelf with a 'last charged' label and put it on charge every few months. Excellent kit.

Same here, had mine long enough for it to have justified its existence. Have found that anything less than three bars means it won’t spin over the bigger bits of kit, fully charged it hasn’t failed on anything.

I watched a review on YouTube about the Gooloo, it started several big American pickups one after the other with no problem

Id agree with this, used mine a few times, very good and holds charge well. Couple of tractors no issue.

Mr. Hewes seems to do OK with Dürer jump packs starting large bit of kit.

I used a tyre air compresser on it for a 1 min was working fine and kept going only thing I done was kept the finger over the outlet to imitate connected to a tyre to produce and pressure

Thats good, and using the cig lighter adaptor?

In that case mine is faulty as it turns off straight away. I will see if they can do a replacement.

Just an update re my Noco GBX45 booster.

I think I suggested earlier in the thread that this needed recharged every few weeks and was rightly brought up by people who thought that wasn't a great performance.

Well, yesterday I happened to check the unit and it was still showing 100% charge after probably 3 or 4 months in the boot. Then today I came across a stranded Escort van... pushed him onto the pavement (sad how many people put up with a two mile tailback, only to sail on past without offering to help), got the Noco out and one burst and he was gone.

So despite what I might have earlier said, the Noco unit seems to hold its charge for several months. Still think it's highly recommended.

Seems weird to think that something like that can jump start a vehicle.

When in Spain recently, there was a Dutch couple on the next pitch with a flat battery on their Fiat motor home.. I have a Lidl pack that says up to 2 litre petrol 1.6 diesel on it, the motor home was 2.5 litre! I thought “give it a try” as the battery wasn’t completely flat. It started it straight up no trouble. I was well impressed, as I was given it being told “I don’t know if it’s any good but……”
