Poor welding on "Quality" axle stands

if theyre hard work giving a refund post some pics on their online fb etc ...seems to get things moving

I am thinking I will return them for a refund not a replacement. I am avoiding naming them for now at least (if anyone wants to work it out it isn't hard).

Get your money back but keep the stands. Cut the tops off, grind them clean then use your refund to get a proper welder to stick 'em together.

One end went perfectly but the other end turned to bubbles as soon as the welder touched it. It was all clean, looked same both ends and there was plenty of gas coverage so I ground it down and did it over again successfully the second time. I am convinced it was the metal.

The boss put it down to the nylon powder coat but the metal was like molten cheese when you put the Mig near it

Just done this for a guy that is making a Hardly Driveable trike I think. He will do the tidying up of the edges which suits me :) Now away to measure up for a roller system on a boat.

). The manufacturer agrees it is a poor weld job however I bought them online so returning them to the supplier may not be easy.

A quality brand that cared anything for their reputation would apologise, send you replacements immediately, ask you send the old ones back at their expense and either refund you or give a hefty discount on your next purchase.

Otherwise they’re selling the same junk as everyone else at a big markup because of their sticker (and paint colour)

I wonder how many others they have sold have the same garbage welding though? Maybe they need a wake up call, if the management aren't aware that someone is turning out rubbish welding like this? Before someones gets hurt, or even killed?

I don't know why the manufacturer doesn't just send them to me themselves. If they saw a problem like this surely they would try to rectify it themselves as quick as possible. The store doesn't even stock them, they had to be ordered in so they have to send them out anyway.

I think the company now only has a small number of employees as the casting (their main products are vices) is done externally. This makes it more concerning that someone has done this without anyone noticing or caring.

This is actually made by them, the stands are a cast design. Something which is unusual to see is that they make it clear on their website which products are made in Australia and which ones aren't.

This is an almost identical stand from another old manufacturer, there used to be a few manufacturers of the same design.

I am avoiding naming them and putting a picture of the actual stands would show the name.

I use a hobby welder for DIY, last week the gremlins upset something inside the machine at the same time as I ran out of gas.
There's not a lot of difference between the result I rejected when I was trying to tack a garden trellis together, and your stands (and I know which ones are more safety-critical) !
Stands work under compression but I'd always be concerned that the weight of the car wasn't central on the top pad, and the pad could snap off the stand.

I work on cars and like to have confidence that 1 ton of metal isn't going to move when I'm underneath it.

Noo, just cutting the tops off and welding is not good enough for axle stands. The threaded part should be turned and the tops machined to fit on the spigot before welding on securely. Like Jack’s blue pic above - but likely welded on both top and bottom sides.

Everything is ‘quality’. Don’t be fooled by that description! These happen to be very low quality

I just bought two expensive axle stands not made in China. When I opened them I found there was welding which I would not call acceptable for the price (or really at all). The manufacturer agrees it is a poor weld job however I bought them online so returning them to the supplier may not be easy.
