I'm currently in the process of building a kit car based on a Landrover Discovery, and at present I am in the process of stripping an repainting the chassis. It's in surprisingly good conditon for 20 years old, but I was shocked at the quality of some of the welds.
It appears that whilst the main rails are machine welded, the outriggers and suspension mounts were attached (badly) manually.
one of the welds actually trails off the joint half way along, and ends up a good 6mm away from the joint
. some of the other welds are a bit pigeon poo!
I'll try to post some pics, but it's a bit difficult to get in with the camera (still a rolling chassis with engine & box).
I think I may have to grind back and re-weld a few of them for peace of mind!
