i can't remember the total ins and outs but it seams they do have the rights as they are classed as roads

Your best bet would be to contact your local 4x4 club, most have a "Rights of Way" officer who can point you in the right direction. A lot of lanes were closed to motorized traffic by the "NERCS" act (you will have to google that one!)

edit - if you're a bike rider, try the Trail Riders Federation.

Have you read up on SVA/IVAing the new build? It looks like the chassis gets shortened to me.

No need for SVA/IVA as it retains original unmodified chassis, the new body mounts to all the existing points. It is just a case of cutting of the existing body, and dropping the new one on. There's not even any welding to do.

To register for the road, just need to take it to local VRO for an identity check, then for an MOT. It is classed as a KIT CONVERSION, have a look here

Looks like I will have to get one for my Dakar conversion then, I've chopped about 300mm off the chassis.

It's all change at the DVLA/VOSA for kit cars and conversions. Originally I was going to Bobtail and make my own pickup back, I read on one of the forums about the changes coming in, and made an appt, at the local VRO for a chat. They were very helpful gave me a load of leaflets, and a copy of the new IVA manual.

It was one of the guys there who put me on to NCF, as he had dealt with one a few months earlier. I went to have a look at it, and was so impressed I ordered one!, Only downside is there is a three month waiting list.

My RRC build is lining up for an IVA no doubt, shortened, extensively modified chassis, so keeping a bit of RR bodywork, and axles (for now), gearboxes and engine doesn't even figure.
