I always carry a pocket knife - always have done!
My wife always has a small folding fruit knife in her handbag - she is always peeling apples and fruit. She does not like to bite into them like normal people!
I think UK law has got it about right - 75mm folding/non locking.
Yes... In the past I have had some 4" locking knifes - but I don't really need anything bigger than 3" for what I use a knife for daily (getting in to boxes - stripping insulation off cables and scrapping my pipe out). Too be honest - the one I carry has a 60mm blade if they made it 50mm - I would get by OK.
Plus if you have legitimate reason for tools for work - any sharp edged instrument is allowed.
For once - I do think UK law has got it right. Plus the complete ban in schools is OK with me.
Yes I had a big sheath knife as kid - I think everybody of my generation did - but did I really need one? Plus I also had a black widow catapult and glass marble projectiles and I can assure you that was not a good idea!
My grandfather showed me how to sharpen a knife till it has a razor sharp edge. Only the other week - I and my grandson sharpened some of our kitchen knives up - so sharp you could shave the hairs off you arm with them - but I won't be buying him a full sized "rambo knife" for his birthday - times have changed - maybe for the better?
