Problem solved move to Lancashire loads of good heating engineers here 
If you can solder then use end feed fittings (much neater) push fit looks carp
If you are using chrome pipe you must file the chrome off where it is inside the fitting before soldering.
If the pipes are coming in from below you will need straight valves.
It would be a good idea to use a Thermostatic rad valve (if there is at least one other rad with ordinary valves on your system). Some TRVs are one way especially with straight valves but there are bi directional ones also.
I suggest you drain down rather than freeze there will be less pressure on you to rush and if it all went pear shape you would never live it down with the wife
I only freeze if I'm desperate or it's a massive system, or a water main that cant be turned off.
Easy job just take your time.
