There's a few fields near us, well lots really, but the crops seems lower than it used to be in years gone by.
Are crops altered to have shorter stems/less straw?
Different varieties grow to different heights, then we use growth regulators to manage the crop height.
Generally arable farms will keep the crops reasonably short as it helps them stay standing when you get wet weather like now and the straw isn't that important to them, we need straw as well so although we still use growth regulators we don't use as much.
