Plastering costs

How much would you expect to pay to plaster this ensuite.I've replaced the plasterboard and had arranged to have chap come in to do it, he said a days labour of £150 plus materials but now he's done his shoulder in and can't do it (not sure if truth or not). Next person was a builder working on next doors extension said £100 plus materials but never turned up when he said he would and hasn't replied to texts. Next plasterer hasn't looked at it but quoted £400 including materials on these photos.

I’m no expert, but from what I know a simple room was about £300, so a bathroom isn’t unreasonable for £400

I’m prepared to be correct ted if I’ve got it wrong

id say 400 is going price depending where in the country you are in

these a few edges/reviels to do

turn up set up the job its self is only half the job

Trying to get a tradesman, there in lies the problem. I had the same problem. People who quote can’t be tracked down to do it, most don’t even turn up to quote, eventually I got peed off, looked at some you tube videos and did it myself. 9 x 3 metres, I probably put about 10 hours into it, was a 3 stage process as it has to dry in between coats.
And I think that‘s the problem, it has to dry between coats so having to come back more than once to do just one room, it’s not the low hanging fruit! In the grand scheme of plastering.
Its not as easy as the experts make it look on you tube but it’s doable to a very good standard with practice.
Heres my effort once painted, I’ve not got any pictures of it mid process but if it was in my living room I’d be happy with it. Was about £45 for the pre mixed filler and about £15 for the floats or whatever they’re called

The £400 price is where I'd expect to be for a decent tidy skim working to a good finish.

I can't tell the size of the room but I suspect it's similar to the assessment at the end of the British Gypsum training. They assign a day and a half to that. Beads are put in before the assessment starts.

Someone quick could do it in a day, I'm sure, but a day and a half would seem right for a job with care.

I guess £3 or £400 depending on what rates are like where you are?

Ps. £100 plus materials for a days work is not going to get you the sort of job you want.

Someone who can do that to a good standard in a day is going to be on way more than £100 a day!

I just paid 900 for my hallway all the way up the house, two full stair flights and around 3 landings which was 5 days work inc materials which I thought was a very good price. Tall walls and up the stairs plus a couple of rounded corners. Last room I had done was 4 walls at 8 foot 6 high. That was 3 flat walls plus around a chimney breast and that was £300 also a good price IMO.

£100 is turning-up money that I would expect to pay for someone to do a patch or something, that work above a £100 job is only going to look good from 100 feet away.

170/day is a reasonable cash price IMO.

That would be 50 quids worth of plaster /tape/ beading for the job?

I charge more for cash.

No beading, just bags of multi-finish. Only a couple of very small outside corners otherwise it was all edged with skirting board/plaster coving/door architrave.

I said it was a very good price, wasn't going to argue it up

I've just had my spare room plastered, it's about 3.5m square and I over boarded the ceiling as it was a bit rough.
One window reveal & one doorway where I fitted a 4mm extension to the door lining so the spread could get a nice edge.
5 bags of multi finsh that I supplied. £360 cash.
He took 2 days, the first day he stuck the beads and plastered the window reveal and ceiling, he also patched anything on the walls that needed doing. Second day he finished it and it's pretty well done.
I went to work and didn't see him either day so he wasn't working late

I think I remember you have some background with lime, but certainly gypsum is often a bit different -

Unless someone is overlapping the set time, or using additives, the finish time of the last set is determined by the moment the first drop of water is added, rather than by what the client does or doesn't think is the right time to knock off.

Plastering is one of those jobs you just pay what the guy asks ,,, providing hes coming recommended of course ....
everyones a painter ,,, its easy
most folk will have a go at plumbing a bit ,,, plastic fittings made it easy
sparking is just common sense ...

but plastering is somewhere between a black art and a science ........ either you can do it or your like the rest of us.

even worse , youve a long time to look at it even if theres so much as a brush stroke or a splash in the wrong place Id pay the 400 ,,, provide tea and chocolate biscuits , and carry the guys bucket in too ,,, just in case you ever need him to come back again.
