Plasterboard - How to Dispose of a Lot of it?

I've been clearing out a barn that was previously partitioned using plasterboard. Some idiot went in there and smashed it up so it's scrap. There's a lot of it - currently in a pile maybe 2m x 1m x 1.5m.

Understand it can't be landfilled but can be recycled. That's a good thing, but I'm keen on a rough idea on the best way to get rid of it before phone lines open on Monday and I spend half the day phoning folk. Has anyone got rid of a load of plasterboard since regs changed last year who can guess how much it will cost to get rid of - and point me towards the best people to contact to get rid of it (legally)?

One of our customers has a lot of plasterboard waste, they were saying they get charged £85/tonne for disposal/recyling from a specialist palsterboard recyling firm....

Google i guess!

A local farmer will take it off your hands for nothing, and probably collect it.

I don't think they would believe me at the tip that I'm domestic. Besides it would take all day to get it there in Renault sized portions. Did the £85/tonne include collection? That could be a good option - keen to have it out of the way so I can paint the floor.

It's a farmer who I'm renting the barn from. Though it's him that will be paying ultimately. Is plasterboard useful to farmers?

Hydrogen sulphide, stink bombs used to be made of it Google list quite a few companies that do gypsum recycling but some landfill sites will still accept it.

Can't the farmer dig an 'ole to put it in? That's what I'd do!

The stuff is the ground in some places. It's dug up and made into boards. not "made" as such, so i cant see why it cant be stuck back in the ground!

if you own a digger dig a hole!
we got rid of half a sheet and thay charged £70
i think they charge about £150 ton around our way and because were trade no chance of getting rid of it!!
the rest fell in a hole somwhere,somehow

its only made of gypsum . calcium suphate . just get a skip or bury it. its no big deal

take it to the local dump mate, gypsum is naturaly occuring, they mine it to make the boards in the first place.

comes out of the ground and goes back in, simples......

it is restricted fill material now, but in a skip it becomes the waste disposal comppanies problem to sort out.

Unless you have huge quantities... several skips +..... no one wants to know about recycling & just rip you off.

This was a few years ago mind, but i renovated a farm house, and had a big pile of the stuff outside ready to go to the tip. The farmer asked if he could take it, apparently it's good for lowering the ph of the soil.

I don't know if it is an acceptable practice, but I've seen plenty of it mashed into the fields around here.

now you've got to get a spesciall plaster board skip because they can't just dump it in the dump and charge a bomb for one

put it down as general building waste...trust me I do it every week.

must be diffent in your coutry the only thing round our way n e england is no household waste and asbestos in builders skips £125 a skip

It would seem it is true, since 1st April 2009 it cannot go to landfill with Biowaste

it's when it's mixed with Biowaste, this combination must cause a chemical reaction releasing Hydrogen etc.

I know the local council dump allows you to take it there, but there is a skip for Building waste
