I have never understood people who get a package and don't open it to at least check everything is present and correct. I know people who get things for their boats and 3 months later, when the part it is to replace breaks, they hand me the package to fit and I open up and it is the wrong bit. Takes a week or so to get things sorted out and fitted and they are losing valuable fishing time Then the same happens again and again and aga.... well you get the idea.

We shall keep our fingers crossed that all is OK when the weather gets warmer and you do plug it in and start to use it, that it does not go opop within a few minutes, they either seem to do that or work very well.
Are you going to be using a 13 Amp plug or a 20 Amp? Mine would trip out the breaker for the first few switch ons then seemed to settle down, strange thing electronics.
I also used a 25 litre compressor originally just watch the pressure meter on the panel if it starts to drop from set then wait for the compressor to catch up.

No metal will be safe soon!

Any chance of a link to the item and to say how much your offer was? I’m after something like this and wonder if maybe you’ve softened the seller up for a similar offer!

I opened it about an hour ago [without removing it from the 'double' box] and everything that should be, is there. Item was shipped from Germany.

Restricted to 13A, but I don't see me trying anything near max cutting capacity.

Un-boxed today, all the bits present & correct No plug as reported elsewhere, and the air compressor connection will be changed to a quick-release job.

By the time I'd done that I couldn't feel my feet, so that's it for the day.....

Even had an email from the Seller to say if I had any problem, to get it touch with them.......which was nice, and bodes well.

You've got me worried now.... I've not examined the cable yet, other than to establish it waaaaay too short. Planning fitting a proper rubber 13A plug if I can find/get one locally.

Ahhh... kinda. There will be a power switch and, if it's two pole (i.e. four wires in total - two in and two out) then, other the earth, it doesn't matter which way round you wire neutral and live.

If it's a single pole switch (two wires in total, one in and one out) then you need to verify that it's the live connection going to the switch, otherwise the innards are live even when it's switched off.

Taking the lid off is pretty straightforward and you shouldn't need to disassemble any further to spot which colour cables in the mains lead go where.

Thanks, gaz - I think I'll probably just replace the power lead with one of a sensible length. Should be easy to replicate the connections then....?

Found a random cut50 pic on t'interwebs (click to embiggen):

In this machine, it's a two pole switch. The mains lead has a green wire, a white and a yellow one.
The green is bolted to the case, so it's earth - the white and yellow go up to a two pole switch (the black leads are the switched connections to the innards) so you can wire white and yellow to neutral/live, or vice versa, in the plug.

If there's only two wires going to the switch then you need to verify which one is switched, and use that for live back at the plug.

Remember your colours may vary! Don't go wiring a plug till you've opened the machine and checked

I'm shelving the idea of replacing the whole cable as the board connectors are hot-glued in place...... , I'll just make up a suitable, short extension and use that.

First off, never apologise for verifying anything that you're not 100% comfortable with when it comes to electrics, or anything else that might kill you

So you've verified which colour is earth, and that leaves black and white? If so, and given the double pole switch, then yes you can go ahead and wire black and white to live and neutral, or vice versa.

The fact that it's a double pole switch means that both connections from the mains (ignoring earth) are isolated when the unit is switched off so it doesn't matter how you wire this pair.

My cut50 also came with a very short lead but it's sat on my welding trolley and I replaced the 13A plug with a 16A commando and wired it into the trolley, so it doesn't bother me.

Just to say, I've been impressed with the level of service I've received from the Seller(s). Sent them a message through the 'Bay and received [allowing for time differences] a reply straight away confirming what Scott had told me. They'd contacted the manufacturers for confirmation that the black & white wires are 'universal' - can't say fairer than that.

Looking forward to wiring up and having a go, once everything stops being white.

i think i classed black as neutral while white i classed as live when wiring the plug up and yeah the plug wire is just too small a 2 metre length of plug wire would be better
