Places to advertise?

Hi all,
I'm starting a business that will be supplying largely ready to weld projects, aimed at beginner welders. squares, angle jigs, torch holders and just fun little projects to get people going.
I know I'm not allowed to advertise on here I was wondering if anyone know where a good place would be.
Any help is appreciated,

Facebook selling pages local to you.
Gumtree adverts for a quid a pop get high on Google and can be set to various local towns.

Yes... While it pays to advertise - sometimes you get to waste a lot of time - quoting out loads of jobs you are never gonna get. Dealing with a lot of people and not getting any paying work done.

Over advertising - can be expensive and time wasting.

It is not easy to get the balance right - it is not!

I made up an image with workpics and details and share it on a load of local selling sites. Maybe half a worth pursuing but it costs me nothing other than time.
Got good at weeding out the chancers.

If it gives you any idea - I have a small garage - we repair cars - we budget on about £2-5k a year for advertising. That's web advertising included.

The actually - cost of advertising has dropped for us - since we dropped - buying regular space in a local printed papers/handouts.

Truthfully I am spending about £2k a year - where I was spending about £5k a year ten years ago. WE are not doing any less work!


I have never spent huge amounts on advertising - I just spend a little bit every year.

I am getting near retirement - I will knock it all on the head (paying for advertising) - about 5-6 years before.

If I live that long - cough - sneeze - wheeze...

He's selling an item, I'm not in a position to advise either way but I think it's not like trying to sell yourself as a service. Make a few of your kits up to show what they are like to finish, make a youtube video with a link and you might get a few hits to start you off.

I gave up advertising 20 years ago, relied on recommendations and word of mouth, we used to advertise in the glossy BMW magazines and before that exchange and mart, yes I am that old, before I retired, if I had a car for sale I would maybe reluctantly place an advert somewhere, where did not matter as I always sold the car but never from the advert! good workmanship and good cars sell themselves, obviously you need to be established so probably some sort of social media these days, what is social media? actually I remember we put an advert on the back of a local bus when we moved premises, they did not notice for weeks!

Top recommendation is word of mouth and that costs nothing. Get some hardware out there - consider it a loss leader - then satisfied punters will recommend you. Also try local circulars. We have one called Round and About which covers local area.

But you already have a client base and word of mouth is the best and cheapest form of advertising if you are good at what you do.
