11/2 mate I do miss it I just cant find no firms to help out weekends to learn the welded side of things

I never did any welding when I was an engineer's mate but threaded an unhealthy amount of 2" red band

Done a wee tiny bit on some 11/4" recently and it's super fun!

Fair play mate I was a alright fitters mate but could not qualify as it as I was too old when I got in to it loved vitoloc as well

I've worked with some good coded pipe welders and most of them went self employed contracting to utility companies. The old saying in some of the firms I worked for pipefitter was a plumber with his brain bashed in. I was taught pipefitting along with plumbing as an apprentice. When I need pipefitting and welding done now its contracted out . 20 years ago we always had pipefitter welders employed

Same as the last two firms I worked for we had plumbers I worked with the only pipefitter on one firm but any welding needed doing subbed out

I see you've done a bit of crimping then , ive never tried it , how quick is it ? did you have any trouble with the joints , it all looks to easy to me !

Its quick and mostly painless with carbon copper and ss not best for tight places and if the rubber ring gets split or gets pushed out u get a leak and it can go up to 4 inch pipe size

As solder melts at 400c + what effect on 'o'rings of crimped fittings at this temp(should there be a suitable heat source?

Answer unknown I've installed it on a lot of heating systems commercially and also chilled water systems I was always told it holds high pressure infact ill have a dig through I've got some half inch fittings somewhere

Just read a piece for marine equipment international with reference to s s steel it says 580psi and 200c!!(400+for solder)
