you generally have to centerpunch the metal to start the drill otherwise it will run off so whats the point . where would u get a laser to put a cross point over where u require drilling . do they actualy make themDoes anybody have and use one of these? Are they any good?Looking for recommendations.
I don't want it to cut through the metal just show where the drill is going
@arctourist,
I can see the problem, though, and I don't think a laser can really help.
Your chuck jaws seem to be way off centre .....

Wouldn't it be possible to mount two line projecting ones under 90 degree angle?
I would think that if you are mounting it at any "angle" other than dead centre under the drill chuck, the laser is going to index at a different point depending on the thickness of the material under the chuck. Example in my rough sketch. Unless you are set up for repetitive work of the same material, the drilling of random thickness'es of materials or items on the table, the greater the inaccuracy it would seem.

..if you need to see clearly what you're doing, wear a head torch...

Mainly I was thinking of this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wixey-WL133-Pillar-Drill-Laser/dp/B06XWBXCZK
