You can drill everything without coolant when you haven't got it.



Only way to do it. It has a magnet reccessed in the bottom too so i can't knock it over.

I put a smallish pot . about a mug full. inside a larger ,3"to 4" golden syrup type tin and put a good hand full of lead shot mixed with araldite . Takes a pretty determined blow to knock it over.

I did check the runout on my new drill.

I was surprised that its actually zero. Needle does not move at all checked it several times and it's correct. Very tight tolerances pleased with that.



The bit in the chuck DID have runout although I have a keyless chuck coming in post so I'll await that before proceeding. Keyed chucks are OK but I definitely prefer keyless chucks. From you tube reviews etc people seem to find the ebay keyless chucks better than the keyed chucks out of box runout wise too.

The chucks supplied with pillar drills can be of varying quality. I have a Clarke here, which has negligible spindle runout, but had loads from the chuck. I put a cheap Geko keyed chuck on there & it's spot on now.

Those are actually decent chucks for the money. Got a couple more or so to use for the Pollard & lathe.
