If you're interested there's a YouTube channel called Scarf and Goggles which has a series on it's restoration. For some reason it's not been updated for a while.

Morris USHNM 918cc side valve making 20hp driving a 3Kw Dynamo to provide electrical power/battery charging without running the main engine.
Derived from the engine fitted to the Morris Minor MM series.

Even then the Tankies could end up having to be tow started by the REME Land Rover.
Which according to my elderly father was scary if you are the Craftsman driving the Land Rover!

Placed just in the right place to prevent you doing the left mag with the pack in, and then be a pain to wiggle the pack past!

Hi Rob,

I have a suspicion that the Vedette engine is originally of 1930's vintage originally used in the early '30's Minor. They also put them in (I think) Centurion tanks as an APU. Great find!

Presumably you have an old Morris then?

Interesting, I sorted a Swan yacht with a Perkins 4-108 that came out of a tank. The previous two engines had sea water come up the exhaust system in following seas. I fabricated a grp water lock silencer which solved the problem. Nothing off the shelf would fit in the available space.
