I was thinking maybe I should have bought a petrol hybrid van instead of the diesel!...my diesel does about 42mpg!

I did well getting the petrol hybrid car though...that does 56mpg and because it's a detuned engine it's perfectly happy on the rubbish stuff.

Does seem like the price increases have reduced traffic quite a bit! I drove the A1 north from London and this weekend I was expecting it to be bad...was pretty clear.

Does help that the black cat roundabout wasn't on diversion though!

Town I live in been dead traffic wise all week - but the kids been on holiday (this always make a difference at some times of the day).

But no real - Bank Holiday rush for the coast near me over this weekend.

Well people round here don't seem to be cutting back on travel. In the 10 miles home from the workshop aside from a multitude of cars and vans I passed bus tours from the museum, loads of bikes from Harleys to Sports bikes, scooters, several peletons of the lycra clad entitled, cadaverous and somewhat bewildered old people in extremely shiny cars, several groups of horses and a few tractors.
Many of the pilots appeared not to have been on the road in six months so I expect the emergency services will be having a busy bank holiday.

The US is a much bigger place, so fuel being cheaper per litre doesnt nessasarily mean they are spending less.

@Erie Fred what would you say is a normal milage over there?
Here, I'm doing 10-14k miles a year.



There is a lot that a health care system does not cover!

So by not covering everything, how is that any better than buying your own ?

BTW I drive approx. 40k miles a year. You bring up a good point.
"Prices" might be better served if taken as "How much for the daily commute ?"
Instead of simply price per gallon.

In view of the situation I have just signed up for 10-month fixed-price contracts for Gas and Elec. More expensive than the Price Cap, and carry Exit Fees, and won't help when we get rationing and powercuts ....

found my Jet the same with prices but always full of taxi drivers hogging the pumps

The farmers around me have formed a "buyers group" to bulk purchase
stuff.
Fuel being one of them (both off & on road diesel, as well as unleaded)
they lock in an odd pricing at the beginning of the year.

It's called "Rack plus".

When the supplier goes to the refinery, to the filling "rack", that is the price
you will be charged plus their fee, the "plus", which is fixed

Interesting point on Bitumen products.
I found out that not all refineries produce it.
Warren Pa refiner does, and it's travelling as far west as Chicago.
Passing several other refineries on the way there, as they don't make it.
