I haven't bothered filling the van as I think it just increases the chances of the fuel being stolen .

I remember fuel theft was a major issue during the tanker strikes in the 2000s.

My thoughts too. I am going to fill a couple of jerry cans and keep them in the outside toilet.

Last time round they were puncturing tanks underneath to drain them, so not only lost your fuel, but need a replacement tank too.

Yep... I recall this - cars and vans getting recovered in - holes drilled in plastic tanks with battery drills.

I filled up my old BMW E36 before winter set in. Put the car on SORN and locked it in the garage.
My aim was to tax and drive from April 1st.
I’ve just realised the value of the petrol in the tank has risen to more than the value of the car!

Until the next price cap ends... then you can guarantee the electric companies will carve out their slice of this pie and recoup what they think they should have earnt.

I was chatting to a large broker yesterday and that is simply not going to happen. Overnight EV tariffs are actually coming down in price, I was paying 7.5p, most are 5 or 6p now

It will happen in some way at some point - the brokers may not, but the government can't afford to lose out on the revenue from vat/duty, which of course is a large component of the fuel cost.
That will be clawed back from EV drivers eventually. Be it tariffs, ppm or some other mechanism. We might live in uncertain times, but death and taxes are still as much a constant as ever.

There is nothing to argue - its basic maths sadly even Rachael can understand.

You can't take 30+ million ICE vehicles generating 25 billion in tax revenue off the road and replace them with EVs generating £0. Hence pay per mile.
That revenue has to be replaced with something, be it a tax, a funding cut, a tariff or some other charge to make up the shortfall, that's just the way the world works I'm afraid!

EVs are only a very small percentage at the moment, as that increases so will the charges- they have to. By all means enjoy it while you can, but it would be very naive to think it will continue.

My point is entirely about the EV charging tariffs, not taxation or any other costs associated with EV ownership/driving
