It's going to be insured, no question, just wanted a few horses mouth testimonials and recommendations. You never know how good cover will be until you need it.
Animal friends have paid out for me a couple of times with no difficulties.
However, as an owner of a dog who's accident prone - on her 16th life having been run over a couple of times, eaten rat poison thrice, pymetra and a whole list of incidents which didn't require the vet I would not buy insurance again. At first it paid for itself but over time it has been clawed back with slowly increasing premiums, and bearing in mind there's a £100 excess it has been a mistake for me.
For those who aren't hand to mouth with money and can cope with paying out a lump in one go should something happen (which I'm sure will apply to you) then I believe self insuring is far better for your pocket unless you are extremely unlucky.
