Should be near enough with snaps and a digital calliper. I’ll bring my inside mic next time I pick some stock up if that helps
2-3 thou wear is noticeable, but hardly excessive. I’d be measuring the ring gaps, that’ll tell you whether the liners need changing or not...

Having given it much thought last night and as much as it is very very tempting just to stick it all back together, given that it is now mostly apart and engine kits are fairly sensible on the wallet, i'm going to push the liners out and put replacement finished ones in, new pistons/rings/con rods and oversize big end shells.

If a job's worth doing and all that.

Just need to buy a press big enough to get the block under now

Are you sure you need a press?, it's amazing what you can do with a vice and a nearby wall

Unless the crank has been reground, you shouldn't need anything over/under sized...

I had a company come out to remove and refit 2 dry liners in a 6 cylinder perkins engine in a tractor. He set up his hydraulic puller and pulled the liners. Cleaned the block bore then placed a large steel plate on top of the liner and knocked them in with a sledgehammer. He said it looks brutal but it's the best way.

You can pull and refit the liners with a length of 24mm studding and a stepped 1/2" thick steel disc., you will need to wait until the new liners arrive and make the disc the same od as the outside of the new liner and the step the same as the bore.Drill a 25mm hole in the middle and you have a liner puller/installer, just need a thick bridging bar and blocks to draw it out and the same disc/bridging bar to pull them in. There will be a set installed height for the liner which will be adjusted with shims.

I made a few enquiries this week about rebuild kits.

Spoke to Perkins who said they don't supply anything for engines this old (early 50's) but put me onto Diperk where a very knowledgable chap checked the engine number and said they don't have it in stock, but would try to source the parts required. Looks like that lead has dried up now.

I also spoke to Agriline who do a rebuild kit, albeit with semi-finished liners. They also do finished liners separate. The woman I spoke to said that the finished liners should only be used in aftermarket blocks. When new liners are put into original blocks they should always be bored out. I'm keen to avoid the machining.

Seem to be getting conflicting info with regards to the liners - there's a lot of people who just push in finished liners?
Keen to get on with this, what do I need to do?

The issue with using finished liners, is they rely on the block bores being to the correct spec. If the block is out of spec, then your finished liners are going to be out of spec once fitted.

Also, blocks of this age may need skimmed after new liners have been fitted, as they're not shimmed to height. They're simply pressed in, and may stand too proud of the surrounding block.

If you can afford it I’d buy the genuine one you mentioned over the e bay pattern.
