ARM ? shame it's now owned by the Japanese Softbank Group. Why don't we keep ownership in this country ?
They sold out for about 20 billion which was a grest deal. Head office remains in the uk along with all the research staff. You would be amazed how much foreign stuff is owned by British venture capital and pension funds.
And retire as millionairs.these companies sell out cos they've been made a good offer & directors recommend the sale in a shareholders meeting.
What we do in the UK is make some decent world winning stuff look at formula1.

Daily life its hard to see anything made in UK or not sold out to a foreign entreprenuer. As a producer i often deal with non productives ie services, public sector, PPI, bankers, insurance co etc that think you can just pick and end product from the shelf - Come back in six months sir i am not a shop.
Britain def leads the world in motorsport and has done for years. The mercedes formula 1 car is of course British as are the engines. In fact most of the teams are. The amg racing team in Germany use 90% British staff.
