Yep, that's how I do staked joints also. Just a tiny run with the Mig.easy peasy to repair.......cut the cross out, drive the cup bearing inwards to remove......if u can use a rotary flap wheel to remove most of the swagging marks, obviously dont make the bore any bigger.....I usually start with a fine 1/2 round file....
ONLY TAKING THE LIP OUT.....I'm lucky enough to have an adjustable reamer but really not necc. JUST TAKE UR TIME......it's not a race.......
anyway once cleaned and smooth push the new joint in in the normal way,,,,, GET IT CENTRAL then take a thick washer 3mm etc drop it in the hole......(I usually turn me own to suit)....
so 3 good blobs with a stick welder / MIG on the edge will fix the joint......easy to clean off and redo the joint in later years......
I have done 100's and never had a failure.......my old Volvo did 350,000mile with 1 repaired as above before I scrapped the car......
