exactly, you're totally right, we wouldn't be held liable presuming we can prove they modified it, that's exactly why we have so many control measures in place, more for accountability, that anything else, as you say to avoid the legal battles. In real terms we're not that really affected, because of the size of the projects we do, we're more design of systems for complete projects than individual components, so our project document controllers monitor everything any but nonetheless we have the same methodology to apply, "Always cover your assets".....

That is very true, it can be got round to some extent by having common routines in separate modules and keeping those secret.

I'm retired, but did a bit of bespoke programming in the heady days of DOS and QBASIC. DOS is dead, Long Live DOS!

I'm sure I've still got a set of 6 installation discs and the COA licence for DOS 6.2 somewhere

Common practice to share DXF files for 2d cutting, its easier for everyone involved and therefore cheaper in the long run. You don't need to share entire components or drawings, just the bare shapes themselves. Mostly the "reasons" for not sharing DXFs is excuse for laziness or an overbearing idiot in charge.

I have a need to convert some PDF drawings & laser cutting files into DXF files for editing before i can cut them on our laser cutter at school, can anyone recomend a free PDF to DXF converter?

I realise it's an old thread and the OP probably does not need the info now even if they have not left the forum.
BUT I though if someone searched the forum they might not find a decent reply.
So here goes. Open free Aspose CAD website and choose PDF to DXF Conversion application

“Yes. Send me the files. DXF if you can.”
“No. They’re proprietary information. You can have pdfs…”

They got their profiling next day and the invoice included a **Language** about fee as I had issues with the scaling. If they’d sent the DXFs to start with they would have had the stuff back the same day.

Proprietary my hoop. Someone couldn’t drive the CAD software that’s all.

I don’t know to be honest.

I’ve never needed one so never looked.

You can open them on the emachineshop site with out downloading anything so I suppose that’s a viewer of sorts

Yes, autocad true view is free iirc
