Well, it's fit for the purpose sold for and it's not actually faulty. That having been said, it is reasonable for you to plug it in and try it, to assess it's suitability. The battle you are going to have is with a company droid, who will attempt to fob you off. The other option is to try the " not of merchantable quality" clause. Stand your ground and go as far up the food chain as you have to. Hopefully you paid by credit card? If Argos don't want to play ball, use Section 75. If you didn't pay by credit card ( don't make that error again) you will need to get formal and "reject the goods" in writing, both to the local branch and head office, giving 14 days for a satisfactory response, failing which you will submit a claim via the County Court.
