When I’ve had them go flat in the past all that’s happened is it reverted to default settings but still booted up ok.

Not common but does happen. Won't hurt to rule it out while its open.
Tower I've just got rid of ran for years with a flat battery.

I had one like that didn't turn the thing off for over 6 months as if it powered down you had to re-entre the date each time.

Thanks for the suggestions folks, will try a graphics card in morning, what I use it for a cheapo will do so no expense lost.

what colour is your g card slot theres a few now with new and old systems

agp vs pci and pci express

That’s about the same level of repair that I would attempt my extremely limited computer knowledge

oh yes I can... just takes me ages to type an answer on this phone , by time I have typed I have forgot who swore at me in the first place

OK the update... looks like the motherboard is kaput big time.

My expert mates health is not good so don't want to pester him to build a mew one but found someone local and talks the talk OK so texting me the build details and price which estimate sounds good.. weekend with luck.

My mate has a hate of computers and if they go wrong he just gets a new one and tells us his old pc had a RAM issue, Which means he tried to RAM it into a bin after he jumped up and down on it Basil Fawlty style.

Put a new card in and no difference

what you running ?

dont forget i picked up 2 mainboards and at a low cost

so

amdx2 60 cpu
with a foxconn mainboard
with 4gb of memory as well

graphics card to be installed

the other is amd3 with cpu and 8gb memory with a amd3 mainboard for 50.00

both needed a gcard installed and one needed a fan installed on it

Well here is the latest...

I did change the motherboard battery last night but after your post i got around to thinking how long I had the CR2's in my drawer and it may have been a lot of years, I also had a new one somewhere, found it and guess what?

Yes...put the new battery in and I have a working pc ...well done for instigating me to double check.

I am getting certificate errors but imagine I need to set the time in bios and should be sorted.

Thanks everyone for all the help, not bad going when it defeated the so called experts.

A silly problem with a simple fix.
