Too true, I knew the battery could cause issues but never a total no connection to the monitor.

The most annoying thing is the 'expert' called, fiddled and claimed the motherboard was dead, mentioning a few issues with a final 'not worth fixing mate'.

The battery was virtually free because I was given a few of them as thanks when I refused to charge for a small welding job and took less than 5 minutes to change on the board, reset the date and time in the bios and all back to normal.

The most important thing to remember is ask here first, we are a mixed bunch with a wide spread of skills, glad I did or I would be £300 out of pocket.

Glad you got it sorted - my guess would be that the battery issue meant the pc didn’t boot so it didn’t cause a monitor issue, rather it just never got to the point of displaying anything.

That's great news, love a cheap fix!

I sailed into strange port and the boat next door asked if I wanted a lift into town as they were off to fix their navigation laptop that had a dead screen. The laptop specialist shop tutted in French/German/Spanish and said "New screen, about 1000 euros plus fitting... and it will be a week".
We retired to their boat to consider, -where I used a toothpick to remove the lump of boat gunge that was preventing the little "screen closed" pin from popping up. Voila!

Yes it gave the impression it was booting but of course the ping was never heard, as soon as a new battery was installed it was an obvious difference to the booting up sound even without looking at the monitor.

I should have guessed because I had some strange faults a lot of years ago that also proved to be a flat battery.
