how does it work if someone buys something of me and pays with paypal .I have a paypal account but normaly just buy stuff with it and it gets payed every month by wifeys credit card also is there a fee charged

The money goes into your account less their %age....cant remember the fee...maybe 10%
They also run a moneyback guarantee.......if anyone claims they havent recieved it or it was broke etc etc they get their money back.
Ive sold stuff to people who were obviously lying but I had to pay them back even though they didnt provide pictures of the claimed to be broken items. However, they are few and far between....and hopefully serial offenders are policed

You can withdraw funds to a nominated bank account but if it's bellow the threshold they will charge you for that too. It's something like under 30 quid. If its a low amount I just leave it to spend on other stuff.

You can tell them you will only accept Paypal if the money is sent as a gift, they then pay all the fees and I do not think they have the right to recall the money (but do check that point)

There are no fees if you pay “friends and family” aka “gift”.
If the buyer insists on paying for “goods and services” then in order for you to receive the full amount you’ll have to add the fees on top and get them to pay the full amount.
I recently sold a camera flash for £60, the fees were £2.32 which I added to the invoice.

It’s quite simple especially with the phone app to use and control.
If someone buys something off you and pays you via PayPal you will pay a fee on that amount of 3% iirc. This fee is to add protection to the buyer. So if he buys something and it’s not right he’s protected by PayPal and you have paid for that.
If he sends it via friends and family gift there is no fee for anyone but no comeback either. They do not charge you to withdraw the funds and it takes seconds to clear into your account usually.

If the payment is made as a gift, no.

Not sure about that.

There is no credit card linked to my paypal, so payment comes from paypal or direct debit if insufficient funds in paypal.

When I gifted a payment they did charge me a small amount, think it was about 2%....this was a couple of years ago so may have changed

The minimum balance for free withdrawal is £50.

I use PayPal all the time for both buying and selling and have never been stung. In fact I've found the PayPal protection to be far more useful than any offered by a credit card.

No mate. You simply say in your advert that if the buyer pays via palpal he/she either covers the 3% fee or sends a gift.
You leave it up to them to decide then what they want to do but either way your not paying the fee.

I’ve never been charged and made countless withdrawals for balances above and below that amount.
