Oxy propane

I have a BOC cutting torch with a few different PNM nozzles, I use it for cutting and heating. Never felt the need for a rosebud, although I should deffo get one.

Started with 20kg propane and 9l oxygen, but those small 137bar hobbyweld oxy bottles don't last long, I soon switched to 20l 230bar bottles, they have close to 4x as much capacity

Pretty much what I'm using although for serious heating I have also a big set of oxy acetylene bottles... I have a 20kg oxygen bottle on my spare thermal arc welder trolley, I would probably just change the regulator/tap and use the extra capacity of the bottle...all in all a very good starter kit...

Can you use a Murex torch with the acetylene mixer and welding nozzles with propane for brazing?

yep , I do it that way , you will have to come up a few on the tip size though.

How long does it last?

In a working workshop - repairing cars - a 47kg bottle of propane and a full size O2 bottle - lasts about five years for heating things up - bending things.

In times gone past we did do allot of cutting with a gas torch - then O2 bottles used to go quicker. But in the modern world - most things can be removed from a car with a 5" grinder.

depends on the job . if its car work and brazing it lasts ages ,, but put the cutting torch on and an oxy bottle will vanish in a few days , Propane I really dont like , I much prefer acet but it was in short supply , then it got expensive , so propane it is ,, only real draw back is that you cant weld with it , its ok for braze though.

fully understand what your saying ,, Id like to see most folk try and cut up a fifty year old landrover without the gas axe ,, two fields away from the yard , in the rain .But the broad and gentle heat from a flame takes a lot of beating for some jobs , and its still one of the best ways to take off spot welded panels , or pull joints about or things like hinge mounts , non of that works well without heat . even simple things like annealing a bit of alloy , or bending something like a tie rod or even exhaust hangers , freeing hinge pins , seized bolts , exhaust studs ,,, and if you need to move a specific piece of metal and leave the bits round it as they were ,,, has to be heat , I stretch and shrink with heat , want to find rust , warm things with a gentle flame you soon find things out like whats thin and what isnt
I couldnt live without heat .. really couldnt live without it ,
plus you cant make a bacon roll with a tig spark , i can with the burners .
