There's a private company in the UK that I see regularly who have a handful of bonneted Oshkosh trucks that are contracted to the MOD.
Huge ungainly beasts that pull 6 axles trailers and lumber up and down at 40 mph, I had a sit in the cab of one a while back and they're incredibly basic motors. No frills, nothing, just a very spartan cab. However, as has been said by others, they make stunning fire trucks for airports. Watched the fire boys at Manchester Airport last year as they were teaching a group of their counterparts from Nigeria how to use said trucks, and they are serious pieces of kit.
Unlike the Mercs that the MOD use for transporting nuclear warheads. Our local village faceache group is buzzing with the fact that a convoy of them went down the A68 this morning en route to Aldermaston, speculation being rife. Not sure why the MOD would use the A68 in truth. Having driven it numerous times, often at 100 ton, it's not an easy road to travel, and while people can tell me 'til they're blue in the face that it's all perfectly safe, I still feel quite uneasy about them passing within 20 feet of my front door...
Commuting up and down the A34 / M40 for years I often saw the MOD Mercs with a police escort, but was always puzzled as to why the drivers door was padlocked shut from the outside, anyone know? If I was driving and anything happened I’d want to be out of there pronto, not wait for a copper to find the key...
Hi, It's part of ADR class 1 (explosives) requirements. No one other than the driver is allowed access to the cab, if a police officer does then the vehicle is to be escorted to a secure police station before access is gained. It's probably to help reinforce it, the driver is not even allowed to open the window to speak to him.

I’m going back tomorrow, just to annoy them
Caused me to google them - seen them in the US, but I didn't know the British Army used them too, with British built trailers. RHD too.
The Scammell was more powerful as well. And during Desert Storm they proved to be incredibly reliable.
the wind didn’t suit what I had planned to do
And they even make one for before you pass your car test.
