One more day to go till I get my new toy

Popped of to pick up the selas as soon as I walked up to the counter and the guy said did you want ywo sets I knem there was gona be a problem, the guy had only odered the lift ram seal and not the tilt ram seals, no biggy just frustrating lucky they are close. I didnt start putting them in yet been to busy with other thing.

Someone did say to heat the new seals in hot oil before trying to fit them, is this right or are they jerking my chain,

No worries guys after a bit of searching it looks like to guy was telling me correct as for those that didnt know, Soaking the seal in any hot lubricant will really help. Doing so will soften the seal compound and improve their elasticity.

For some reason ive been thinking its Friday all day today. Overall it has not been a bad day all in all. Had a phone call to say the bucket tilt seal was in so popped over and pick it up. And set about getting them fitted, I gave the glands a bit of a clean first with a little ally blast, and the o-ring pic set is brilliant.


I am always amazed how long we tend to make do with a tool until we buy the proper one. Every thing went to plan and as its my first ever ram repair I though it went pretty smooth, I do tend to over think things which makes me nervy.


The pull round wire I put a little blob of weld on the end and shaped it, perfect, it pulled round a treat I have found a supplier not to far from me, I am thinking I might pick up a couple while its all clean and easy to spin out.



There both done waiting to go back on the digger weather permitting, its been raining here.



So this afternoon I made up an extractor hood for the planer, its not pretty but it works well



I am getting it ready to plane the oak floor boards I picked up before covid struck.

Then to round the day off nicely just before I left for home I had a call from the shipping guy that the digger roof will be here tomorrow, sweeeet.

Its all back together and no leaky rams, I thought I would have had to bleed or prime them, but hey ho no probs.



I replaced the hydraulic filter and changed the hydraulic oil again it still a bit white, while the digger was laid up its not totally clear yet but getting there. I cannot get all the oil out in one go. I figure its a lot lbetter than when I first got it. It does feel a bit more responsive on the controls so things are improving. The roofs on its way as I type this its coming along the A31 with shiply it should be here about 8pm fingers crossed

After spending a few hours today on the roof, repairing a couple of cracks in the fibreglass mainly around the gutter area



I then ran the DA over it, and gave it a good clean,





and its on.



It fitted like a glove luckily all the clamps fitting were still on my frame and they all came undone. Its much better than the rubber roof lol I need to get one more work light I see they sell them on the fleebay.

Here is just a little update on how things are going and about a problem I had and now solved, as it may help some one else. As you know I have changed the hydraulic oil and the filter when I first got the digger and pull a lot of sludge from the filter housing. Being in experienced with how the back actor should move its always felt a bit slow I have since changed the oil and filter again. About a moth ago I even bought another hydraulic pump to to help speed things up a bit the pump worked great for about the first 15-20 second then the hydraulics became very jumpy. Over the last couple of days I have spent pulling the controls off and cleaning them,


I did find a couple of o-rings that needed renewing, I ve been taking off pipes to see if there was any restrictions or collapsed pipes, nothing, put it all back together and it was still the same jumpy hydraulics once the loader has lifted to approx 5 foot off the ground.
Last night I was thinking there has to be an oil starvation somewhere back from the pump so today I decided to strip out the filter housing and see if there was another filter where the oil come into the housing before the oil gets sucked through the filter. I drained the oil again and went to remove the large paper filter from the housing or resevoir only to find the filter had started to implode on closer inspection the inner veins of the filter were all out of shape as if they've been in a vacuum.


So with this in mind I put the oil back in without the large paper filter, (the fine mesh metal filter is still in the reservoir) and fired the tractor up result, no jumpy hydraulic and fast moving.
The filter that I have taken out has had approx 2hour running, I don't know if its imploded because the new pump has more suction or if its a doggy filter. after 2 near misses I am now done with the paper filters am I am now looking for a better hydraulic filter something along the lines of a Baldwin PT88_HD metal cased filter rather than the paper ones.



Just thought I would share this as I have just spent 2 days looking in the wrong direction, (although it has not been a waste of time) as I would never have thought the filter would have failed so soon. Having the new pump fitted has made the machine like a new machine I just need the new filter back in now so I can get digging.

On the digger there are a pair of rubber blocks they fit between the front bucket tipping mechanism and the loader frame, bit like a crude shock absorber.



One has come completely apart ie the rubber part has come apart from the fixing plate the other one is coming apart.




I have given it a bit of a blast to clean and



I was wondering as I have some U-POL Tiger Seal BLACK PU Adhesive Sealant on the shelf, would tiger seal be strong enough to bond the rubber back on to the metal part.

tiger seal or sicka-flex should be ok clamp them up for 24 hours to cure

If you can get hold of some windscreen sealant & primer, that'd be ideal for it.

Having had a quick look at what a couple catalogues list for hydraulic filters, that paper style is listed as 'hydraulic' by the usual agricultural suppliers, yet Mann list a metal gauze filter for some of the industrials, with no direct cross reference for the paper style.
Is there a separate hydraulic return filter?
And who said the paper style was for the suction side?

Beat me to it. The paper elements are usually a return filter, there is usually only a strainer gauze on the suction side. The return filter may not even be in the tank, it could be in a cannister else where.

Have you determined if you have water ingress somewhere causing the milky oil?

You may be able to get some new rubber pads from somewhere like the TTC catalogue for truck and trailer components, i used to get them from there when customers would not pay Volvo prices for them on A25 chassis under the bodge.

I just replaced like for like when I first got the digger nearly all the ari spare list the paper ones I have a metal Baldwin one on order now.

It was down to previous bad maintenance see my earlier posts from when I first changed it. I am slowly getting the oil clearer I have done it twice now everyone that has a 50B on the forums and fbook reckons it will never be perfectly clear
