Unless I was in a production scenario, CNC is something I'd never want, personally.

Doing it manually is far more gratifying, IMHO, when your wage doesn't depend upon it.

I find machining so bloody boring.

The working out I enjoy.

Its very hard to narrow it down to one machine!

At one time I would have said a 2 or 4 post car lift but now that I don't do much car work the need is a lot less.

I have a large workshop but I would like to be able to have separate sections for welding/fabrication, machining, woodwork, electrical work, etc plus a good spray booth. And given the current weather a good heating system would be nice.

As for a tool, I would agree with a few others, a cnc plasma plus the knowledge to use it would be handy. There are a lot of plasma patterns that are beyond me for hand cutting but I think would sell well in the marketplace.

We've had a few bed sets ground on a waldrich Coburg. Very nice finish. We used to have a large Waldrich Siegen planer with grinder attachments but it wasn't a patch finish-wise to the coburg.

Herbert Devlieg had a siegen planer
They tried getting rid of the scrapers and bought favretto way grinders but they couldn’t achieve accuracy requirements of a Devlieg. Herbert even re scraped the new favretto but it just wouldn’t work
Though those who know understand you sometimes don’t make a big machine straight as you need to pre stress it so to speak

My choice of any machine, would be one of the large dragline mining excavators. I would use it in central London

Second choice would be Big Wind. The twin mig jet engined fire truck. This would be great for removing protestors from roads or any structures**
I would also try replacing the water tank/supply with a fuel supply to make a huge afterburner.

** Stuctures may not survive, but Im willing to accept that.

I enjoy the machining. My working out usually happens on the fly. Usually only start off with a rough idea, & go from there.

It changes week to week, space is the biggest problem of them all for me, after that a cnc router would be nice which is what's planned if I ever get my extension for the garage built,

I’ve just taken delivery of a 8x4 swift cut cnc plasma at work………

I've already got most of my dream tools... the CNC mill ticked a lot of boxes when i got it in the summer.

It would have to be a CNC cutter for me also.

if we're talking dream machine, it would be a 12kw laser... the one we have at work can cut 30mm steel with a pretty nice cut edge when it's all working correctly....!

I'd make do with a quality plasma table though!

Now there's an idea, I'd go for a laser too. I'd set it up in the garden and see if I could get the aim right to give Xi Jinping or Putin a new poo chute.
