Obtaining an address for someone

All my working life I have paid suppliers and tradesman on time and in full. I have never knocked anybody - ever!

I expect my customers to do the same to me.

No really - I never let any money due to me go - however small the amount is...

its the principle of it not just the price. penny or a pound most ive been done for is 600 quid not saying what i did but it did cost him similar in the long run and i still smile sometimes after 8 years

Well strictly speaking no....but depending how good his accountan/solicitor is he may well have phoenix companies set up. So you could win in court and still get no money..

your right if he was a comptant person but at 25 years old i dout hes that good just a young person prob with an other half with bills to pay on a car and xyz and as hes a bit far away thinks he will just never bumpin to him or he wont find him so hes taking a chance

You obviously know the girl friends name, and location try the electoral roll, it is a public record, so unless they are blocked normally for security reasons which in this case would not expect it, you will find her address, a simple case of sending a letter to her address, asking her to pass a letter on to boyfriend, do not have to explain, why you need him to her. Whilst looking at electoral roll might see his name on it if not.

A lot of people, especially those in rented accommodation who are intending to move on after the lease runs out, don’t bother with things like the electoral roll. Those who have debt chasing them tend not to bother also. That’s one reason why some folk rent for a few months then move on.

if he’s not registered for self employment of whatever type, he’s probably not going to worry too hard about other forms he’s supposed to fill in.

is he actually self employed or is he furloughed from somebody? I’ve no idea about carpets but it strikes me as one of those trades that’s a pretty small world. Maybe you can find him through previous work or something?

Would he just be fitting carpets or supply also? Maybe one of the trades counters knows of him? It’ll take some leg work and you’ll be lucky to break even but it’s the principle. I wouldn’t let it go. It will just encourage him next time if you do.

throw brake fluid over his car that would cost him a fortune to put rite

40 years ago I was in a line of cars slowly moving down a one way street to access a multi storey carpark in Leicester Square, a swarthy looking guy came the wrong way up the one way street and bumped over the kerb to cut in front of me just as I got to the car park, I was not amused and hooted or flashed him, he got out of his car and punched me in the face as I sat there, got his number, three weeks later I was reading the Sunday Times motoring pages and saw his number plate for sale, rang, asked about the plate and casually asked if the car was for sale as well, it was and was the same car, Merc sports, drove over with a coke can of brake fluid, upended it on his roof, rang back a few days later to ask how his paint work was and told him why he now needed a respray!

I totally agree, I often put way more effort into getting paid or goods to the value than the cash was worth,

RE the brake fluid. The modern stuff isn’t supposed to do that. It’s to do with eco crap but also revenge throwing over people’s cars.
However, a sponge soaked in MEK on the roof overnight will work too. Ask the guy who didn’t pay how I know that

Just don't get yourself into trouble over it. I know a tradesman who went onto a property and destroyed some work that he'd done because he hadn't been paid. He ended up in a lot of legal trouble over it. The law was completely on the non paying customers side once he'd done that. It ended up costing him a lot more than what he'd been owed for the work plus his reputation was tarnished afterwards, he ended up looking like a thug in the end.
I would recommend you go after the money anyway you can, just have a good think about the consequences before you do anything rash.

yeah if you get the brake fluid in the gutters which cars don't have know I don't think but if u get it in the roof rails would do the trick as it totally buggers the paint work and when resprayed it still comes back haha serves them right I think do to them that does it to you but far worse

Regarding my comment about looking at the electoral register, as you say his name most likely not on it but if his girlfriends is then you can send the letter as I suggested, it gives you a lever, if it is not returned, assume he has it or seen it, he still does not contact you then send another but explain that you will sending the debt to debt collectors and this will be the address you will use, he does not need to know you most likely won't, but is a legit threat. With a little bit of work and a couple of letters at a cost of stamps, it is an easy option, if not registered then you will have to decide weather too call it quits and take the loss, check companies house you have his name, worth a try

I had a similar issue to this, over a garage call out, to someone who had broken down. Garage billed me.

My sister in law knew the chap.

After many phoncalls over six months, nothing, then she stuck it on his FB page, the following day he phoned to apologise, cheque in post, could she delete the post after....

Doesn't look good on a professionals FB page.

Evening all, first post for a while.

Recently had someone do some work for my company and always paid him on the day the agreed rate.
I returned the favour for them and 'their company' (inverted commas as I have my suspicions he may not even be a sole trader) and was agreed payment be the following week. this was at the end of september.
Now, i know it was daft me not getting any of their details first off but thats naivety on my part.
Every time I ask when is the money coming I get greeted with an excuse. Started off as he hadnt been paid by the firm the job was for. Now he is telling me he hasnt been paid by jobs he has done - actively posting on instagram his work until he blocked me this evening.
Spoke to citizens advice and they have said letter before action then go to small claims. But not having an address I obviously cant send a letter.
Tried a google search but didnt throw much up

All help appreciated.

Be aware there's two versions of the electoral roll. The one released to marketeers doesn't have those who've opted out. The full version is available from the local council AFAIK, try your local library.

I dont know his Mrs name so cant search that.
He reappeared on WhatsApp and Instagram now and even had the cheek to ask me if i wanted a job in hemel that needed doing before xmas. Told him id rather my £350 and he said hes skint and will sort a payment plan in January. All the same stories ive heard before
