Now It's the Induction Hob

I have had invaluable expert help on my washing machine and VFD conversion. Now I'm seeking out the induction hob expert.

We have a NEFF hob. One board has failed in the past and replaced. I have the old board. Now it has failed again.

It is a Siemens/Bosch Module No 00666615

I can get a replacement for c.£300. Google hasn't pointed me to any grey market or repaired/refurbished suppliers.

Does anyone have any pointers towards repair or lower cost replacement?

I can't see any obvious fault on the old board - but even if there were my soldering skills on electronics aren't up to the task.

I did the 'sign up for insurance and wait a month' trick to get the first repair in under £200 premium plus excess. The hob is over 10 years old now so that option isn't so readily available, but I'm still working on that.

It's 500x760 and flush fitted into a granite worktop so replacement with a new one isn't so easy either, even though prices have fallen.

Am I really reduced to spending £300? That goes against my good Northumbrian Methodist upbringing.

I'd be looking for a new one, if it's a flush fit you may find its standard (ish) size

Freestanding cookers are, hobs are generally similar but obviously you could do with one that is a direct drop in

Er, an induction hob IS the standard electric hob. Neither SWMBO nor I would go back to gas!

They are good, I know a few who made the switch and wont go back

I've actually got one of those boards in the shed, sadly it's broken or you could have it. Like you I couldn't see any obvious fault on it, nothing appears to have let the smoke out.

I'd replace the whole thing if possible, it's probably only a matter of time until the board on the other side fails.

I rented a villa in Italy that had one. Awesome. Faster than gas - just as easy to use and much easier to clean.

I think I will stick to gas personally, These induction hobs just seem an expensive affair to me!

Amusingly the little twin 'ring' portable 13amp backup jobbie from Lidl I dug out of the depths of the Armageddon cupboard has lost one of its 'rings'!

Current plan:

• return the Lidl one
• ordered a replacement cheap 13 amp plug-in.
• Soldier on with 2 rings on the main hob and the plug-in until next year.
• When offspring come in January get them to poke about with the spare non functioning board. They understand the function of the various buildings the imps live in and different kinds of magic smoke they make or use.

If they can't fix the old board, bite the bullet and buy a new board.

It is flush fit into a recess. This was a key criterion in the first place. All the cheap ones sit on the worktop and protrude a few millimetres.

It isn't small 500x500 4 ring one. 500x750 5 ring one.

The nearest replacements are in the £1000 price point, but none are the right size - but still checking.

I know the ones mate still the way u r going £300 a board the other 3 will go eventually and you would have wished you got a new one. if the new one is bigger get the granite guys back to alter the rebate

There are lots of ICs and big black things on the heat sink. Click the link in my first post to see a photograph. Lots more photographs if you enter the 00666615 into Google and select images. They may mean a lot to you, but not to me - I run out of knowledge at recognizing a resistor!
I'm hoping offspring might help as they are confident poking about with electronics whereas I'm not.

Edit - the ICs are on the underside of the board. If photographs would help I can get the old one down from the attic again and take many.
