Noise from next door

was round the daughters neighbours doing his patio for him over a few weeks . all day long I heard this like panting and whining . it was doing my head in I asked did they leave the mut out all day or something on its own no there in the garden with it now . if I was mine it would get a boot up the ring its Chinese torture . glad I only have 2 neighbours . british rail and a house the other side that's 25 meters away with a big fence in between

All the years I lived in the Far East my biggest pet hate was people who happily let their dog bark, continually, all day and night, even when they were there right near it, even in the same room.


The locals were bad enough, but our Brit neighbour would invite me round for beer, and his massive Alsatian would be right outside the open window barking massive....and he would carry on talking like it wasn’t there.

its the beams between the buildings that work like the string on a bit of string and two paper cup telephone , that you may have played with , its a direct transfer and a solid mechanical link , which means its a very efficient way of transmitting vibration , which is what form the noise takes.
ill have a bit of a think , but its a very tough problem to sort out , Ill revert back to my original post ,, turn up your background noise ,,, its not a solution , but it will lessen the noticeable effect .

as an experiment , try hanging a curtain or the likes against the inside wall where the concrete roof beams touch your wall , this may help , in the old days it was common in student houses having a party to put a mattress against the door ,,
Idea being that the sound waves leaving the wall , which is probably what your hearing will be attenuated by the curtain , if that works , or helps then a wall hanging may be the thing to try .. it wont solve the problem but it may help ,, at least you have the knowledge that the kids will grow up and the problem will end.

Or take down the connection between buildings down, the only surefire way to do it.

I looked at a couple of ‘link detached’ houses before I bought the bungalow, but I knew damn well what would happen if the neighbour started with loud noise. There was one up the street from us in our old house, nice detached place, with the neighbours garage connected to the side wall....... and the garage but had been converted into a teenage sons play room.

So now the detached house was just a semi. Nice.
