Funny what car say the gb20 is good.
Amazon reviews on gb40 looks good at 4.5 but if you read most of the latest reviews a lot are 1 stars sharing similar experiences to me.

I have no experience of the GB40, I can only comment on the GB70 and GB150 which I have and my experience with them is very good.

As you say it is interesting the variation, I think on these smaller units it's more important to get a good connection and I have had times where I needed reposition.

I wonder if there was a bad batch of GB40 out there? It's always weird when you see loads of 5 star reviews and big chunk of 1 star reviews for the same item.

Project Farm does a solid review but in my experience those magazine reviews are very subjective. Both Noco reviews said they turned the engine over nicely/quickly and from point of view that is all I would want. Marking a boost pack down because it only has one USB doesn't really concern me.

I subscribed to Practical Classics and Land Rover Owner for a couple decades and their product test were always bit strange. The would test two items that clearly came from exactly the same factory but maybe a different colour and one would maybe get 10 points and the other would be 7. Then they would do stuff like put something at the bottom because it was the most expensive even though it actually performed the best.

Its hard to trust anywhere now coz you don't know who is getting paid to promote what.
The first small jump starters i heard of was jumping jacks and I heard good first hand reviews. I think they were about £50 to £70 back then and was ideal for a back up if you had classic cars etc lying about. When I went to get one they were sold out everywhere.
I did some research and thought I'd put the extra money into the gb40 and buy a better one and I guess that's why I'm so disappointed.
I feel around 50 to 70 is acceptable for one not being used too much and would be handy compared to jump leads, especially if the vehicle is somewhere awkward.
And their is ones out their that is good at that money but as always can't post to Northern Ireland.
If your using it a lot like you then paying extra and more expensive doesn't matter as much coz you'll get your worth.

Just a quick update on my Noco GB70

Had it since just before Christmas, charged it up and have mainly used it to start my campet van which is parked in front of my lockup. It's there to minimise the drain when starting as I only run it for a few minutes to get access to the garage and then put it back against the doors. Probably done this about 10 or 12 times and not charged the Noco in-between

Other weekend I had to move a Jeep Cherokee, 4l petrol. Battery was completely dead and Jeep had been standing for 3 or 4 months.

Noco spun it over with no dramas and Jeep fired up. Had to repeat this 3 or 4 times to move it on/off the trailer and shunt it around the yard and it just kept delivering.

All of the above on a single charge and there was still plenty of life left in it, showing over 50% on the capacity LED's at the end
